🔍The difference between "best before" and "consumption period"

Japanese food products are usually labeled with a "best before" date. The "best before" date means "best before this date". Although food past its best before date is not in its best condition or flavor, it can still be eaten as long as there are no obvious signs of spoilage (smelling bad, having an off-taste, etc.). However, it is recommended to consume it as soon as possible after opening.
